How to take the guesswork out of talent management

Despite the column inches devoted to Talent Management, not to mention the huge investment of time and energy that goes into it, remarkably little is said about actually identifying the talent, definitively and objectively, that is supposedly being managed.

Perhaps it's because many people believe it isn't possible to define objectively, or that talent is so obvious when demonstrated that objective identification isn't necessary; or maybe they just don't know how to.

If talent management is really about "..the integrated process of ensuring that an organization has a continuous supply of highly productive individuals in the right job, at the right time", - Dr. John Sullivan (professor of management at San Francisco State University); then it applies to all people in all roles in the business, must address the question of future performance in a different role, and has to have some definitive way of identifying the talent in the first place.

Fortunately we have the answer, because we can identify it, measurably.

Which means that you can now objectively identify the innate talents of your people, and use that knowledge to help them perform in roles that make best use of their talents, and further develop their talent to the point of mastery in that role.  Irrespective of whether they're headed for the top, or not.

In other words, you don't have to guess any more, you can know, simply, and easily.

 

Getting the measure of Talent

It is said that if you can't measure it, then you can't manage it. It isn't strictly true of course, but when it comes to talent it certainly makes life easier if you can be more objective.
