Traditional training and development is often expensive, time-consuming and wasteful in delivering real improvements in performance, due to its scattergun approach to learning. The 'one size fits all' approach takes little or no account of the simple truth that people learn and communicate in different ways, have differing personal styles, problem solving abilities, and means of communicating and interacting in the work environment. Nor does it contribute anything to recognising that low performance is more often the result of a poor match of role and innate talent, than any skills deficit that might exist.
